Are pizza delivery places supposed to have you change your coverage to commercial before starting as a driver?

im dealing with an accident i got into while delivering pizzas. a week later my insurance company calls me and tells me im not covered and have to pay out of pocket. i understand the reason why i wasnt covered to deliver pizza. but i think the company should tell the new driver to notify his insurance and update coverage. seems like something they should at least suggest when hired. any advice woulld be great. and do you think i should try to make some kind of claim against my employer? Are pizza delivery places supposed to have you change your coverage to commercial before starting as a driver?
No, it's your responsibility to do it, not your employer's.
You can try and file a lawsuit, however the chances of you winning are slim to none. You are using your personal vehicle for business use, therefore it's up to you to ensure you're properly insured. It would have been NICE for your employer to recommend you review your insurance, but they are under no obligation to make sure you do so or to even recommend it. Would your employer be responsible to ensure your house is properly insured if you brought work home to finish? Are pizza delivery places supposed to have you change your coverage to commercial before starting as a driver?
Most Pizza businesses do mention the insurance upgrades. Even if they didn't, it is still your responsibility since you knew you did not have commercial vehicle coverage.
