1995 speedometer and odometer sometimes works sometimes doesn't?

Sometimes it works just fine but lately it does not work most of the time. If it does work, then it works from the moment I turn on the car to the moment I turn it off. If it doesn't work, then it's the same deal. I deliver pizza and so turn the car on and off many times in a day. It seems random as to when it works and doesn't. Yesterday it was working about 3 times that I started and drove the car, and was not working about 15 times. Any ideas?1995 speedometer and odometer sometimes works sometimes doesn't?
the car uses a Vehicle Speed Sensor on the transmission to "tell" the speedometer how fast the car is going. In almost all cases where you have an intermittent operation, the problem is with the VSS. Its an easy and inexpensive replacement



it is rare, but possible that the problem is with the speedometer. I would recommend you do the VSS replacement first. If you're mechanically inclined, you can do it yourself as its located on top of the transmission and only held in by two bolts and the connector.
